Here is what recent research has unearthed :

  1. Increase your life span. A study published in the British Medical Journal followed 6,000 vegetarians and 5,000 meat-eaters (mean age 39 ) for 12 years. The meatless group was 40% less likely to die from cancer and 20% less likely to die from any cause .

  2. Have a balanced diet. A recent study indicated that vegetarians have an 11% higher resting metabolic rate than meat -eaters .

  3. Cows are pigs. It takes 2,500 gallons of water and 7.5 kg , of grain to produce half a kg. of beef.

  4. You don't need a prescription. Nearly all factory farmed animals are administered antibiotics Result :distributed milk also contains residues such as tetracycline .

  5. Be more alert. According to a study published in Enviromental Health Perspectives,a diet of fast food leads to poor memory , perception and attention . Researchers suggested that this was due to a lack of a nutrient called boron , which can be found in many fruits and vegetables.

  6. Don't clog your arteries. A high -fat , meat-based diet can lower testosterone levels and clog your arteries , including the ones that send blood to the penis .

  7. Save your bucks. Meat consumption on a regular basis adds pressure to an average family's annual budget .

 

Tips to help you fish

 

Buy it fresh. Fish should always have a clean ocean smell with no yellow tones and if it breaks apart when you wiggle it it's old . With the whole fish, the eyes should be clear , shiny and bulging , the gills should be bright pink or red , and the scales should be even , shiny and smooth.
Keep it cold. Refrigerate fresh fish at 32 degree F to38 degree F untilyou cook it, which you should do within 48 hours . Scombroid poioning ,which results from not keeping fresh tuna and other fish with high levels of histamines cold enough, causes symptoms such as nausea, diarrhoea and a "pins and needles" sensation in the mouth and on hands and feet.
Limit swordfish to once a week. Ditto for shark and fresh tuna . These fatty fish are more likely to store chemicals such as mercury .

 

Increase your appetite

According to a study published in the Journal of the American college of Nutrition , zinc deficiency may be a cause of obesity .According to researchers the leptin -a harmone thought to decrease appetite and increase energy expenditure -increases when zinc levels are high , and decreases when they are low .Experts recommend that you get atleast 15 mg zinc for your daily diet . Best sources; Bajra ,bengalgram, betal leaf, almonds, cashew and coconut.
